27 November 2013: ICT-1 Daily Summary – Zahid Hossain Khokon, PW-6

Today the Tribunal heard matters in the following case:

  1. Chief Prosecutor vs. Zahid Hossain Khokon

In the case against Zahid Hossain Khokon, the Tribunal recorded the testimony of Idris Sardar, Prosecution Witness 6. Idris Sardar testified in support of Charge 7. Thereafter, the state appointed Defense Counsel cross-examined the witness. 

Examination-In-Chief of PW-6

Idris Sardar testified that in 1971 he was 14 years old and was a student of class 5. He testified that on 29 May 1971, a fight took place between Khokon, his accomplices and the Pakistani Army and freedom fighters. In that fight, Jafor, some members of Pakistani army, and three civilians were killed. He testified that he witnessed the incident from a bush.

Idris Sardar testified that one day after the incident of 29 May 1971, while he was at his home at around 11 to 11:30 am, he heard the sound of firing. He came out of his home and saw Khokon and Aynal coming behind the Pakistani Army. He informed his father about that and hid in a nearby jungle. He testified that he saw from the jungle that Khokon, Razakars, and the Pakistani Army set their house on fire and that, when his father was trying to hide, he was caught and taken southeast towards a road. He testified that after some time he heard two sounds of firing. He testified that Khokon, Razakars, and the Pakistani Army set fire to the other houses of his neighborhood and then went towards Purbo Para. He testified that when they left the village, he went to the road and found the bloody, bullet-riddled corpse of his father. Idris Sardar stated that he informed Sekendar Mattabor, who then came to the site. He testified that Aziz Mattabor also came to the site and informed him that his father also died by the firing of Khokon and that he himself was shot in the hand. He acknowledged giving an interview to the IO and testified that Khokon is not present at the dock of the Tribunal.
